Community is important to us!

Looking for a great fundraiser for your nonprofit organization, church or school? Nonprofit organizations can staff concession areas at the South Okanagan Events Centre for fundraising opportunities. The requirements are simple and the commitment is worthwhile!

Program Highlights:

  • Volunteer groups will earn commission based on percentage of net sales.
  • Groups can earn bonuses based on attendance and performance.
  • Group staffing requirements will range from 8 to 24 based on event.
  • Ovations Food Service will properly train each group.
  • Ovations Food Service will provide initial uniform shirts and hats.

Ovations Food Service can present their program in detail at one of your next group meetings. All workers must be at least 18 years old and all workers must attend 3 training sessions.

Here's how it works:

The program is intended for Not-for-profit groups that are registered with the CRA and therefore have a business number. Basically, a not-for-profit group would get a pool of volunteers together that would be available to work in the concession stands for agreed upon events. Around 6-8 people could run a stand. All volunteers would have to be 18 years of age or older, preferably everyone (but at least all those doing cash as they are the ones serving alcohol) would have to have Serving It Right and at least one person volunteering each event should have Foodsafe.

The group is responsible for setting up and cleaning at the end of the event. One member of Ovations staff will be in the stand to supervise and help out, but they are not to be counted as one of the required number of volunteers. There will need to be one person from the group per event designated as the captain, this person will come in a little earlier and count the opening inventory along with the Ovations staff, once the stand shuts down they count the closing inventory. Another member will be in charge of picking up and returning money, they will be required to leave a piece of photo ID which will be returned when they return the money at the end of the event.

Sales are determined by inventory usage and matched to the cash turned in. The group is paid out monthly a commission for net sales less any cash shortages made while volunteering, currently 10% of net food and beverage sales and 5% of net alcohol sales. Shirts and hats can be provided but if the group has t-shirts and hats with a group logo that would be acceptable. Black pants and non-slip closed shoes would be required for each volunteer.

We’ll hold an orientation night prior to the first time in just to run over some policies and procedures, go over what’s expected and do some practice on the registers if requested.

There will be a NFP agreement that they would need to fill out and sign. Contracts are for one year only.
