CANADA’S NATIONAL WOMEN’S HOCKEY TEAM takes on OHA SELECTS
PUBLIC WELOME!

Penticton, BC: Hockey Canada, in collaboration with Okanagan Hockey Group and Spectra Venue Management, invite the community of Penticton to join them next week as Canada’s National Women’s Team take on Okanagan Hockey Academy Selects at the SOEC Complex.

The first game will be played on March 21 at the Okanagan Hockey Academy Training Centre at 5:30PM. The second game will be played at the South Okanagan Events Centre (SOEC), on Wednesday, March 23 at 7:30PM. Both games are FREE to the public and promise to be action packed. Team Canada’s complete pre-competition camp schedule can be found here, all practices will also be open to the public.
“This camp will provide a solid measuring stick for where our team sits heading into the competition,” said Laura Schuler, head coach of Canada’s National Women’s Team. “It gives us a great opportunity to build team chemistry and come together as a group as we prepare for the upcoming world championship on home ice.”

These games will be played as part of Team Canada’s pre-competition camp in Penticton March 19 – 25. The team will then head north to Kamloops and open the 2016 IIHF Women’s World Championship against the United States on March 28.
The 23 players selected to Canada’s roster include three goaltenders, seven defensemen and 13 forwards. It features 17 returning players from Canada’s 2015 World Championship squad that won silver in Malmö, Sweden, along with 16 returnees from Canada’s 2015 4 Nations Cup team, and two players that will make their first appearance on the world championship stage.

“Having these games open to the public is an amazing opportunity for our community to come and check out some of the top female hockey players in the world,” said Andy Oakes, President, Okanagan Hockey Group. “It’s a great way to simulate a true game environment and helps the team in their preparation for the upcoming World Championship.”
